Full face isn't going to make me any faster.

I ride everything in my Xen. This could be an excuse to go buy one if I need it.

Is there going to be a mandatory chainless run this year? We didn't go last year but the year before the pros were asked to do a seeding run chainless.

Tom
06-23-2008, 10:17 AM
There will not be a seeding run. It's tough enough logistics wise to get practice runs in before clearing the course and starting the race.

Are you going to be racing, Sean?

Tom
06-23-2008, 10:21 AM
PS anyone who is interested in volunteering, drop me a line with your contact info. If you're racing, bring your mom/dad/bro/sis/gf/bf/wife/husband/neighbour whatever to help out!

Good to know!!

Nah, my race season ended during my first race of the season :) I could barely ride the woodlot on Saturday without my shoulder throbbing. I will be out in full-force with my cowbells (I forgot them in Seattle this weekend but we had coffee cans filled with rocks) making a ruckus!

If you guys need anyone to marshall let me know.

We will be GPSing and marking the XC course tonight. We (I mean Steve) will post it up when it's done.

Expect lots of rooty and rocky sections.

Tom and I hiked the trail last night, collecting GPS data, and putting up the signs. The road section is just a road lng engough to stretch out the pack, but then we got into the single-track section in the trees. Wow. Makes me want to hang up my DH bike and ride more XC. That's a sweet looking trail, through some very beautiful forest. Several good, technical sections, some nice speed sections. Gonna be fun!!

Dh grooming has been ongoing, and is in primo shape as well.

I rode the xc course on Sat morning before the rain. Looks great. Good climbs, both technical and road slugs. Realy nice single track sections. Very tech terrain in some spots, one in particular that i would consider very tough for an XC course. I assume there will be a few folks walking the one section, especially if it is wet. If it is not completely dry on that spot i always walk...and some times take a few dabs when it is dry. Nice work on the profile, i have always wondered about the elevation on that climb. Seems harder than that...

seems pretty expensive for a race

stillgoing
07-15-2008, 06:49 PM
DH: 40 for the race; $10 for late fee now in effect, if you need a one day license it's either 5 or 10, depending on your age. You can also elect to buy race insurance.

So, minimum would have been $40 for a licensed rider before the early bird fee ended. Now, if you are unlicensed, over 17 and want insurance, it can be a fair bit more.

The XC race is $10.00 less expensive.

When I left the hospital last night about 9:30, Ping was there with him. The plastic surgeon was just cleaning the wounds and was generally optimistic. There appears no broken bones.

I don't know how cool it is for me to be discussing his injuries in detail here in public without discussing that with him first, so I'll hold off.

However, I believe that by the time it's all over he'll be fine. He'll have some gnarly scars, and some expensive dental work. He was, of course quite bummed.

You need to do one mandatory pre-run, either Saturday or Sunday. If you can't make it Saturday, you'd be well advised to show up Sunday WELL BEFORE the shuttles start, so you can sign-in (I'm assuming you're pre-registered because there is NO DAY OF RACE REGISTRATION) and get to the shuttle line-up in time to get your pre-run in.

The District of Mission will be brushing and grading the back road (Saunders Road ) this friday 10 am, approx. (Millpond as well)
Rode the XC course, with my dher and except for the climb ,what a fun course.
Steep and sweet with a lot of pumping and flowing.
The new bridging really added to the look, one thing about racing.
It really brings the condition of the trails up big time, still see last years work.

That was an awesome race, thanks to all the FVMBA guys for puttin it together.
I ended up getting a mechanical half way down so I couldn't finish, and had to walk down the rest. Ended up with a super speedy 00:20:09.78 :coo:
Too bad cause it was a really good run for me up until that point, but it was still a great time.
I am definetely lookin forward to it next year!

Had a great time at the XC race. Came in way last in the 30+ Citizen.

I bled my brakes the night before and found our during the race they did not work so well! Had to really pump them up to get any power. Fun lesson to learn on a very technical XC course.

I have never ridden out there before, but I will be back to ride. The trails are awesome!

Great event by the FVMBA.

A huge cheers to the organizers of the Bear DH race yesterday. I thought I'd add comments on a couple things I really liked, and most of these points were mentioned more than once by other racers. First off awesome organization as a whole. On both Saturday and Sunday the shuttles started earlier than posted and allowed people to get in a good number of pre-runs. I was stoked to see that the course got some repairs during the extended course closure (which was for the removal of an injured rider). The course also got some repairs on Saturday night, which was awesome. Results were posted within minutes of the last rider in the category finishing. Awards were promptly after the race. Prizes were awesome, tons of draw prizes, and the prizes were awesome. I was stoked on my draw prize too, a 9 speed chain, which is something I can use! There was a clock at the top and bottom of the course. Race started on time and stayed on time. While practice started earlier than I'd like on Sunday it was nice to be done earlier in the day, which is something I'm sure the people from out of town really appreciated. I am so stoked that the Bear Mountain race is still around and still as awesome as ever!

I'm glad to see clipless pedals dominate again!

some guy came unclipped right before the two gaps at the end, couldn't get enough speed and came up short on the first gap - HARD - and almost endoed. i think it may have been greg burbine but i'm not totally sure. his bike had the craziest wheels i'd ever seen.

Was my first real race ever and first time riding dwon in the fraser valley area, placed 8th in citizen men 30-39, totally gassed out skipped a gear at the end and cased the first of the last two gaps a little (probably heard me cursing for miles)but had an awesome time, thanks again to all involved. Crap. Add that to the one that we "lost" from our rental set at our Burnaby Mtn XC BC Cup on Jul 13th and someone is starting to assemble a nice set of radios for themselves.

Sure, our crew could have dropped it in the bushes, or we could have thrown it in the dumpster accidentally, but on the other hand the box of radios wasn't exactly guarded like Fort Knox. Just sayin... and putting out a warning to other race organizers since that's 2 radios now gone missing from 2 different recent BC Cup events.

Both the XC and DH maps are still on the bear mountain challenge web site, at the bottom of this page:
Here (http://www.bearmountainchallenge.com/bearmtnchallenge.php)

The courses are no longer marked. The DH is a no-brainer to find. The XC should be ok using the map, but don't go on the gunclub propery - enter the trails via the entrance south of the gun club driveway.
