I was in Kamloops a few weeks ago for a conference, so I took my bike and got a few self portraits. the fun thing about self portraits is that you look like an idiot running to your bike to get riding to get in the right spot at the end of that twelve second timer. Rarely does it happen on the first try, so if someone were watching, you'd look pretty stupid. but at least the rider can't complain about doing the same section over and over again to get it right, because you are the rider.

I'm pretty happy with these, but there are a couple that i'm holding on to for later. I especially like the steep chute run, because I only had one shot to get that one done.

hey, thanks guys. that steep one was a bitch to hike back up. i tried bringing my bike up to go for another angle, but gave up. I just found out that i'm the other moneyshot finalist, so you should get to see some of the ones i've been holding onto from the last couple of weeks.

it took a while to get used to. it's a peleng that i got off of ebay, all the way from belarus. it's fully manual, including focus. but it helps in the self portraits because i don't have to run as far. the biggest issue is keeping the aperture no bigger than 8 or you lose a lot of sharpness.

Ride Rose hill and Rio. They are both up rose hill road right beside Bicycle Cafe. Follow the road up until the water tower, thats rose, one of the gullys is unrideable right now.
For Rio there is a dirt road about 40ft up from the water tower, just follow that. There will be a gate that is open just go through that and continue on the trail. You will eventually come to a barbwire fence, the trail is left of that, you cant miss it. If you are unfamiliar with the trail you will see a road gap near the begining when you come down the landing turn RIGHT, along this trail across the hill. Otherwise you wont be on the right trail.
Also check out KBR.

The fact that it's self portrait is unreal.
Amazing trail shot.

these ones had no tripod. tripods help a lot. otherwise it just takes some time getting everything set up. i used my camera bag and some rocks to get everything level. so you end up spending 10 to 15 minutes getting the camera where you want, whereas if you had a tripod with you, it's wham bam thankyou mam. no tripod does make you think/work a little bit harder for an angle that works.
