View Full Version : DO NOT BUILD on Guildford Jumps Please

My name is Brody and my brother is Cory. We worked long and hard to build the jumps in Guildford. Everything has been good since we started building them last year but today we went to them and the last few were demolished. We built one as a table top for a reason and someone dug it all out into a gap that doesn't work. Someone also demolished the tranny for the berm jump and changed the last few woops and trick jump. If you know who did this can you please tell them not to work on our jumps. Also, no one else build on them please, my brother and I started these jumps and we know what we are doing. Do not add lines or change lines. We will complete them soon and we encourage everyone to ride them but also respect them.
Thanks
Uncle Duke

Well, we built new ones. It's all new lines. We're gonna start working on the big line once my bro and I are back from Nelson. The little line is really fun though.

They shouldnt be called the guildford jumps... Naming them after the original jump spot is disrespectful! Nothing will ever be as good as those

Haha
A) They're essentially in the same spot as the originals, or so I'm told, and they will be much better than the old ones so I feel it's ok to name them that. (if you guys have a better name I'm game, we need a name for that area)
B) I'd like them to stay a secret so I don't want to post where they are. Ask your friends, people are quickly finding out where they are.
C) Guildford is like a large part of Surrey.

Dude, that's pretty disrespectful. There's a reason to not post the location. If you would actually do that I hope you never find them.

I think you mean White Rock. If you went to school at Guildford Park you'd know it doesnt get much more surrey than that.

they will not be better than the old ones atleast not over night. it look 4 years and thousands of hours of digging. I know I use to dig there. I pretty sure I know where these ones are if they are near the old spot. I have an idea where that is and if it is the spot I'm thinking pretty sure they are going to build apartments there. Good luck and if you want help digging i would love to help you.

Yeah, you're definitely right on a lot of points there. We've built quite a few so far (small ones mostly) but the big line is gonna start to get built once we're back. Come help anytime. We want people to bike there and build, but not change our ideas. My bro and I like to figure out the lines. And yeah, I know the area is slated for development.... that sucks. But in the meantime, we'll keep chuggin away on them cuz it's good exercise and bring the biking community together in a way. I'm starting to see Surrey's biking community more and more (just moved here last June) and I'm glad to be a part of it.

Nothing beats the old guildford. I remember the run up to the jumps used to be covered in marijuana leaves after someone dropped of all of their trimmings.
Its gonna be bloody tough to beat the old guildford. I hope your good at building. We have a weak supply of good builders in this city, and an even weaker supply of good soil.

Hey Brotay, I met you and your bro a couple weeks back. I met a few guys at the guildford bowl and we all rode down and took I look. I didn't ride them at the time as I had my freeride bike with me. My name is Jonathan and I was the older one who showed up. Anyways apparently the kid who was messing with them was Anthony from Pinkbike. Someone told him to stop so I think he will leave them alone.
Anyways, me and a buddy will probably be coming by within a few days to check them out, if you're around, we can go grab shovels from my place a few minutes away and we can help dig.

Hey Jonathan! Good to hear from you. Yeah, I talked to Anthony on pinkbike myself. He seems like a cool kid and he's gonna help down there sometimes. Hopefully no one else tries to change them but if you guys are around it should be ok. I know Brent has been down there lots and he asks people not to change them. I'm up in Nelson filming right now but coming back on Monday. I'll see you guys down there soon.

If you want to yell at the idiots who were messing with your jumps...

I think cegik and ledzeppie have something to do with it...they're typical surrey mountainbikers who would rather "fix" someone else's work than build there own...

I'm pretty sure they didn't mess them up, but either way, I don't think any of them intentionally want to harm the jumps. they seem like ood natured kids when I met them.

the old guildford jumps were HUGE, and awesome. even i tried them, and i hate dirt jumps haha. but props on rebuilding, it gives those surrey kids something to do rather than steal my car.

There you go, Guildford jumps as of May 27, 2008. I'm Brotay's brother by the way. We went down and worked on them today, gave a few of them face lift's and built up the S Berm and started working on a new line.

Is there anything that can be done for the drainage issue ? Last I checked, they have mud in the middle 2 days after rainstorms. I would've come help dig today but thought they would be muddy and vacant so I chilled at the bowls up the street.

We fixed one of the bigger areas where water pooled, but i know what you mean, it turns into a skating rink down there because of the mud... It's not so bad now, but yeah theres just one more spot where the water pools I think, we'll see when it rains next i guess.
brotay
05-28-2008, 12:37 PM
Drainage isn't too big of an issue now, but the fact that most of the dirt on the first few jumps is more like clay is an issue. Once it rains that stuff holds water on the top instead of absorbing into the ground. The dirt passed the second big jump is really nice dirt and doesn't have absorbing and drainage issues. But yeah, once it rains again we'll see what areas need fixing.

Looks like some great dirt. Once your lips and landings are 6-7 feet tall, you'll be done! Don't forget to add a few hips and mid pack roller/berms to make it more fun.
