Not knowing where to go snowshoeing has left my wife and I...not showshoeing.
Just wondering where a good place to go is after-work. Is Seymour still open/lit after dark? Grouse? Cypress? Is there somewhere else to trek about for an hour or two?
Thx.

I've seen some people come down from the trails after dark on Cypress, not sure though
No snowshoe trails are lighted. But there is tons of ambient light.
seymour is a good bet for a quick snowshoe. bring a headlamp

I don't think Grouse is lit, but they offer night-time snowshoe training or hikes so I'll assume the trails are open at night (they recommend to bring a headlamp)

You can snowshoe anywhere at night. There are lit trails in some of the spots on Grouse, Cypress. We go during the week at night alternating between Grouse and Cypress. A good loop on Cypress is park right at the back of the DH lot and go straight up the olympic mogul run then to the top of the black mountain chair. from here you can descend the other side of the runs and cross back to the chalet. Youc an also head up to Black Mountain before descending. On grouse my favorite if you have a skyride pass for summer then you can use it in the winter to snow shoe and the Dam mountain look is super fun and can be made longer by heading out to thunderbird ridge. All these areas fall within the boundary and are marked with poles however at night you will not see too many people if any so letting people know where you are going and also carry some extra gear and avy gear if it is an epic snowy night and a head lamp is essential but mostly not needed for most of the time however can be very useful to see luminated markers...dogs are not permitted on the grouse tram so that may lead you to seymour or cypress. check www.theyeti.ca for info on the clinics they run on seymour during the week. You can also head off up fromme etc. right now with the low snow...just get out there as the snow is awesome right now...

A headlamp and a sense of adventure is all you need :) You don't even need a super bright light either, snow is so reflective that a little light goes a long way. Most of my shoeing has been done in the dark. The Dog mountain walk is really nice on seymour. Also if you want somewhat lit trails, then the path up to pump #1 or whatever it's called is right next to the slopes on Seymour.
The other night I did a walk with Connor on Eagle, where we ended up hiking up the dentist. Bike trails are really cool in the dark, covered in snow, they are so different, yet still familiar enough that you won't get lost.

cyps has 2 marked trails that are free. one from the xc ski area to hollyburn and one from the DH ski area to black. if you're not up for doing your own routes yet, definitely check these out first.
you can also give a lot of money to cypress and have them lead you around their pay snowshoe trail network.

I'm still haunted by the sound of his voice complaining about how many hills there are on Eagle. :)
I want to do a big hike on Sunday, don't wear yourself out.

that would be a long snowshoe. it takes like 90 mins at a moderate pace to ride to grouse if i remember correctly. 2 hours plus on slowshoes.

www.clubtread.com (http://www.clubtread.com) has a group that goes snowshoeing every friday night up seymour. I've yet to be able to, but I'm hoping to go up a couple nights this winter. they usually go for a couple hours and seem to have a good time.
