Ok, heres the pitch, for the last 8 years Ive been skiing in Canada (lake louise and Sunshine) during my easter break, Im from Scotland, and now I fancy something different. Im looking for a resort that offers a decent amount of off piste/back country skiing, similar to runs like the Delirium Dive in sunshine and good levels of powder. Im not interested in park skiing and I know that Whistler offers the best terrain available, but its too pricey for me. I would also like a resort thats relatively close to a town for pubs, bars, restaurants etc. I've been looking at Kicking Horse and Fernie, but also some interior resorts like Silver Star.
So if any one could give me any sort of advice into which resort, apart from whistler offers great off piste powder skiing I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Ken.

You can do Whistler cheap if you be frugal, but I would either head to Kicking Horse or Revelstoke for the steep and deep they are the second and third highest for vertical feet in BC next to Whis/Black. They can get better snow then both Sunshine and Whistler. Golden has a few pubs and Reve does too. Real BC towns still into logging and snowmobiling, tons of backcountry.......

Thanks for the info, theres alot of talk over here about Revelstoke. Its being tipped to be the next big thing, bigger than whistler when its finished maybe. Definitely sounds interesting. I've also heard alot of good things about Kicking Horse.
Thanks again for the info,
Cheers

if they Whistlerize the ski hill that won't be a bad thing, but the town is already good.....

right now you could blow into town and find a cheap motel for 80$ ,you can find somewhere to sit in a coffee shop or resurant, things arent crowded ,the people are friendly the patrol is friendly the runs are deserted and a ticket was 56$ a day .We hit it 4 days after a cycle of new snow and so I only got 1 day with any real untracked left but I can definatley see the possibilities for off piste & trees
in banff & LL you hear more british accents than canadian ...you might as well have stayed home
I think revy is better than kicking horse ,never been to fernie

Agreed - too much pow - wayyy too much easily accessible backcountry - the vibe in town is far to chill for a brit and Red is wayyy too close...
Probably too cheap too - you would feel like you were robbing someone...
