Afternoon All,

Ive heard about Cypress and Silver Star bike parks, have done the usual Googling and both come pretty well regarded.....

We will be having our annual pilgrimage over to BC for 3 weeks riding and was looking at taking in a couple more parks aside from Whistler. After a few years of Whistler we were looking for something a bit different.

Could anyone just let me know of any pro's and cons of the Cypress and Silver Star??? Are they big enough to spend a week in each? Nightlife ok??

Over to you guys!!

Mucho thanks......

I can't say much about Cypress, I didn't think it was opening again, but I can say as far as the park goes Silver Star is the greatest. You could easily spend a week riding and not get bored. The nightlife however, does not exist. Midsummer down the hill in Vernon can be fun, but on the hill everything closes at about 7. You either make your own party up there or travel 20mins down the hill. I'm hoping it changes this year and things stay open later (please read this Silver Star gods, keep the pubs open).

Cypress will probably stay closed till 2010 Olympics are over. :(

Silverstar and Sunpeaks are both high on the list!

Whistler - has it all. Rad trails, kickin nightlife and anything else you want to find.
Silver Star- wicked trails, great atmosphere, little traffic (compared to Whistler), little to no nitelife on hill.
Sun Peaks - steep, kicking old school single track, some progressive new stuff, not bad nightlife.
Kicking Horse - big. big. big. High alpine riding, great trail system...don't look for a-line here your not going to find it. Look to Golden for nightlife.
Fernie - classic ol skiing town. Lots of character. Great trail system. Lots of other riding other than the resort very close by. Never had a chance to check out nightlife, but the town itself must have somthign going on.
Panorama - very similar to Fernie also pretty close to Fernie. Good set of trails, not a lot of nightlife.

If you want to stray away from the resorts, there are a ton of other killer locations to fill up some time. Check out http://www.bushpilotbiking.com/
Well worht it IMO.

I would argue Invermere has better night life than golden during the summer, but other than that, pretty solid list.

I personally have had way more fun at Silver Star than WBP, but you should probably hit both.

Anyone got any comments for Mt Washington on the Island.

If cypress is open next year as per Newgirl's post you should definitely check it out. It's likely to be small, but look at how close everything else is.

Wow great news. I thought they made such a good start and for the 15-18 bucks for three hours in the evening it was a great deal.

a week?? i dunno about that. on your average summer day you will get a TON of runs and 2 or 3 days of that should suffice. After a few days of silverstar me and my friends are always ready to move on (kamloops or kelowna)

We usually do something like...1-2 days at SS, a couple days of local riding and 1-2 days at Sunpeaks. That makes for a great week in the interior.

I don't think I could do a solid week at any bike park. Figure after two days at a park you have something around 20 runs (give or take depending on what trails you are running and if you are stopping for any reason); which is usually enough at one place for a while :)

Usually I concentrate on different lines when I am really comfy with the trails - to get most of the speed :) As in "proper d'bag dh training". Is great because you have to concentrate and pick your lines and stuff and shed some more of the unnecessary lines to enter the flow with speed.

I hear good things about Mt. Washington and lots of good riding on the island if you know where to look.

I spent a week at Whistler this year and loved it...not long enough. I hope to hit up the interior more year as I hear great things about SS, really the only other park I want to hit.

silverstar is awsome its like whistler exept less trails and less people
mt washington is pretty fun but really you can only ride there for a couple of days before you get bored (a couple days in a row at least) as there is not much selection in trails

I've only ridden Washington - but from what I understand it is probably the smallest of the Bike Parks - then there is always Forbidden Plateau (shuttles)and Cumberland Trails (you gotta earn it)...then Gold River...Parkseville...you could easily lose yourself for a week on the North Island...and the night life in Courtenay is always pretty good!

Only plan on one day at Cypress, its short and steep you go through brake pads but other than that it was fun. the rest of the week you can hit up the shore its free minus shuttle but you have to drive up to cypress also.

+1 for Silver Star. We liked it so much we canned an NZ trip in 08 to come back to BC. Plus I have to return this greenery to it's original spot on the hill.
<-------

Definitely bring your own party cos everything's shut after 7. Everyone back to our condo for smokies and beer. That's if you can hold a beer - after 2 days of braking bumps, I couldn't turn a doorknob!

Yeah, I've heard it's like that and the pictures still make it look so fun there.
I live in Whistler and ride the park all summer, but I want to explore the other bike parks around because I've only biked in whis. Next summer, I want to hit SS, cypress(if its open), mt washington, and sun peaks. I guess I better join the racing club because the I can travel to those places easier.
