I want to set up a board for putting some acreage behind me and tackling more demanding routes. I also want to be able to shred as well. I need a boot thats it not too stiff and a binding I can ski. I'm thinking Dynafits with a Garmont mega ride boot.
Any suggestions or hard earned advice you'd like to dish out?

My roomy and a small group of old riders up here swear by hard boots for on or off piste , they use any AT boot & leave the top buckles pretty loose

I might bounce it over there but I'm intrested in what the think tank here has to say.
I'm not a huge hard boot fan. snow boards are ment to be ridden with soft boots, you must have ankle movment to realy work the board. still for longer tours and dicy traverces a touring boot and the ablity to lock down the heal could be just the ticket.

I'd think Megarides are going to be too stiff.
From what I've read on these types of set up guys prefer the softer AT boots.
Something like the Matrix is a softer boot.

I don't see the matix listed on the Garmont site. who makes it? Scarpas don't fit my feet, so who else makes dynafit compatable boots?
another question, is there any proformance issues with the dynafit speed lites I should know about?

ya these guys are actualy using older AT boots that nobody would actualy use nowdays and still they leave the top cuffs loose.
how about finding some older boots that nobody would use to ski wiht anymore on the cheap ?
The roomy has an approach ski with homemade door hinge bindings I will try to take some pictures of his setup now that I have a flickr site
BTW the matrix is scarpa
just look at the Garmont site and check for the pivots on the front of the boots

jd - Matrix is a scarpa. If you're a garmont foot, then Scarpas won't fit. I don't know anything about the dynafit setup for the snowboard crowd so can't really add anything other then that you can get soft Garmont and soft Dynafit boots (TLT series is pretty soft and you can get them cheapish).
I fit garmont boots and dynafit boots so you should too.
The speed lites are basically stripped down Dynafit binders - no issues with them. They have no heel lifts or boot size adjustment so once you mount them - they have no adjustment for different boot sizes but that won't matter to you if you're not sharing your board with others.
