I know I've made a thread about this already once before. But it's getting extremely close to opening time! Take a look at this .pdf, it is going to be such an amazing hill! I have experienced Revelstoke powder first hand, and must say it is Okanagan Champagne powder, with about 10 times the dump load!

Its going to be sweet but dont most mountains have sick powder all the time until a lift gets put in, then theres only said sick powder for about 20 minutes after the lift opens after a snow day.

To a certain extent you're right, but one thing that revelstoke will have in their favour I hope is the fact they are in the middle of nowhere.

3 hours from Kelowna, 3 hours(ish) from Calgary...

Hopefully the mountain doesnt see the volume that say... Whistler or even Big White see's... But thats wishful thinking

I wish you were right, but if thats the case they wouldn't be sinking millions into it to get it open.

I thought it was three hours to get from calgary to kicking horse so wouldn't it be more like 5 ish hour to get from calgary to revelstoke depending on rogers pass condtions?

it will be busy for 2 months when it opens, then it will be dead. its in the middle of nowhere, and there are too many other big hills around.

I've skied the existing hill a few times and had several 50cm days there. Admittedly, locals only then, but as other posters mention, this place is hard to get to by BC standards. Roughly halfway between Van and Calgary and you have to drive past some pretty good ski hills coming from either way. Almost 3 hrs from Kelowna airport too. Where will the people come from? Kicking Horse has struggled to post decent skier visit numbers too, and they are only 3 hrs from Calgary. They barely hit 120,000 visits a season; if they weren't selling land they'd be in big trouble.

Like everyone else here, I'll be going for a look at the new developments so it will be a busy first year but after that they will slow down. New expansions will be needed fairly often to keep the buzz going in a province that is already hugely oversupplied with ski/snowboard resorts.

I can't wait to go and check it out. I've never ridden that area, outside of Roger's Pass. I don't want to wish bad things on the developers, but I'd prefer if it remained quiet. The drive is just too big for most families, and that's where the money is.

My family is looking into buying a condo there and renting it out for $ when we are not there. Apparently this place is gonna blow up and be almost like the next whistler some say, but thats pretty big.
Even thier Bike Park in the summer is supposed to be good too.

The new Revelstoke ops mgr worked at Kicking Horse for several years, avy forecaster in winter, bike park safety in summer. Dedicated rider. I'm sure he'd be well supportive of a bike park operation at Revelstoke.

Credit crunch hits Revelstoke Mountain Resort

By Aaron Orlando - Revelstoke Times Review

The international financial crisis and credit crunch appears to have taken a toll on the progress of the Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

What is clear is that significant management and ownership changes are underway, and the credit crunch, as well as other factors, will cause a delay in the scheduled opening for many of the physical components of the resort and on-mountain infrastructure such as chairlifts.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort Chief Operating Officer Rod Kessler appeared as a delegation before Revelstoke City Council at their regular meeting on Oct. 27 and announced that control of the project had been assumed by the Northland Properties group. “I appreciate everybody’s few minutes this afternoon to talk about -- we’re in a different place,” said Kessler. “The City of Revelstoke was in a different spot than it was a week ago and so is Revelstoke Mountain Resort. I’m happy, very happy, very pleased to announce that the development and the operations have been assumed full responsibility by the Northland group, which is operated by the Gaglardi family out of Vancouver,” he said.

I can attest to this.

me thrice.

Was up there a few weeks ago for work, and had a talk to a few of the operations managers. They seemed a little leery about the future, but also had some solid plans to work with.

Lets hope its as good, and better, than last year!

Oh ya... right... they dont get any sno there, stay far far away. Go to Whistler.

Totally not surprised by this announcement.

They will plan, but getting someone to invest in anything is proving very difficult. I think it is going to be a few years before we see a turn around.

Didn't make it up there last year, but if they maintain what they had from last year, what I heard was that it was pretty good.
