So I wandered into Safeway to but some BBQ stuff and saw the new Powder Buyers Guide was out so I picked it up then a few hours later I inevitably got my August jones on for the skiing. To make a long story shorter I hung out in my ski gear(including boots, toque and goggles occasionally down) and watched the MSP classic Global Storming.

I had the ski dream last night. You know the one...the one with 50' rooster tails of powder and big floating 360ºs to endless butter smooth transitions.

Yeah, we always want what we can't have. Global Storming is a CLASSIC that I never get bored of....

I've bin scoping for new boards last week - just as I'm riding more than ever. Go figure. Now, is it just me or do all the 2008 ski graphic look deranged sketches of a mad man?

Anyone skied on the Priors?

I've played on both the Doughboys and the Originals.

Doughboys are a super playful fun ski. Lots of pop and turny. With these you look for moguls to pop your turns off because it's fun. They carve and hold a line in cut up pow and chunder, mostly cause you are on top of it not trying to bust thru it. A great quiver ski, but if it's going to be your one ski do everything you might want to look elsewhere.

The Original is that one ski do everything. It's not a super stiff big mountain charger, but it can do it. It's not a monster pow ski, but it floats well. It's responsive in the trees and can hold a carve on groomers. Nice lateral stiffness to the wood core. All the demo's are the soft flex I personally would get something a touch stiffer than the regular flex after skiing the regular. Great ski from a great local company.

If you are looking for a bigger do everything ski I recommend the Fischer Watea 101. It's 134 101 124 in a 192 length. I picked up a pair just after Christmas last year and I love them. Torsionally stiff, they hand flex soft but you'll never feel that on snow. It carves great and has wicked edge hold. Floats great in pow. Fun underrated that can be had for alot less then other skis in it's class. I demo'd the 08's and didn't feel any difference. I was hoping for a touch stiffer tip, but doesn't feel like they changed it. But the wanting for a slightly stiffer tip isn't a deal breaker. They still charge crud without issues. I'd say look for 07's on closeout dirt cheap.

There is a set of 2008 doughboys on the Prior website already - is that their new graphics style?

Shirk, any thoughts on the Originals for mounting with Freerides with the idea of hitting Oboe, Flute, Baker slackcountry etc. Too heavy? Better off with a BD Havoc?

I'd say mount them on the line. The guys at Prior designed the ski as a do everything ski for out local conditions. I'd trust that they have them figured out.

What do you weigh tyler? Do you mostly do touring or inbounds? This a dedicated setup?

I've skied the Havocs and liked them but they're a very different ski then the Priors

This would be more of a dedicated setup for skinning up and charging down. Think yo-yo days outta backcountry lodge, but not lots of multi-day traverse.

I'm 180lbs and would run 'em with AT boots. Am considering something in the 85 - 95mm waist for coastal conditions, 180ish length. Monster iM95 OB, Rev's, Bro's, Havoc's are on short list too...

Suggestions?

if you'll be getting AT boots then you don't want or need a super - stiff ski. You''ll want a ski biased to powder that's a bit softer. You're not that big so you can get away with lighter gear.

Heads are overkill and heavy - the 95s are stiff

Bros are nice but quality varies - you get a good one and its very good. Mind you I've not skied them. Light ski though. Also you didn't say which stiffness.

The Havoc in 183 would be very good for you. The twin tip is a pain sometimes for using the ski like a picket. At 88mm its probably a bit undergunned in super - deep snow but would be good 90% of the time. They're not that turny just fyi

The Reverend was an awesome ski. I really enjoyed using it. I used a 177 - you could go a size up. Graphics were meh - but then who really cares about that right? They're quite turny fyi but can really hold speed too

I also am a big fan of Movement skis. You'd be able to use a Movement Thunder at 88 width or so

I haven't skied the Priors but take a look at the comparative sidecuts, the weights etc. They are just different skis.

That makes me happy and sad. Sad because I broke my leg in June and this summer for biking has been a wash. Happy, because I should be good to go within another 6 weeks, and the ol' Never Summer Titan 164 (that's a snowboard for the "yard sale" types among us) is sitting in the corner taunting me, waiting for a fresh wax/tune and the first fatty turns of the new snow season.

Still wish I'd ridden the bike more though............Injuries suck, damnit. :stupid:

Apparently Black Diamond has moved all production to China. So it's down to supporting whistler locals vs. dirty coal-powered country w/suspect HR record....

What would you choose?

Alot if not all of the skis are now made in china, just about everything is now made in china , if you don't want to support china you will have a hard time ,cuz almost everything you own including this monitor is probably made in china

i belioeve the movement and g3 are both made in the same factory in tunisia

545$ for a fat allmountain will be hard to beat

I really liked the verdicts ,they worked everywhere for me
