Here's my new XC ride, a 'new' 2001 Brodie Spark.
Thanks to my spawnszerrrzzz:  Henry Pejril gave me the fork, the wheels, rear derailleur, and the old Grimeca 4-pot brakes, Kim Steed supplied the rest of the drivetrain at heavily discounted prices, and Trev at Full Boar helped me out with some other stuff. Scott Pilecki got me the pimpin' KMC ti-nitride chain.
Don't laugh at the tires, they were free. My dirtbike needs tires before this bike does.
Total weight - 26lbs. with a 5" thru-axle fork. Not bad!
now you just need the 4 seater kid trailer

Nice, I have the same brakes or close to anyway(System 12's, those look like System 8's) they are a bit chunky for an XC bike, but awesome non the less. Makes me wanna build something like that, almost exact components id want too.

Arent those the suicide brakes?
Wayne P
08-23-2007, 09:55 AM
Suicide or not, they were free. They're working great right now, let's see what happens. They are they same as 4-pot XT's so how bad can they be? What could possibly go wrong?

Steed gave me a sweet deal on my Dainese, and I rarely go there (or anywhere on the NS)

I had the system 8's and the xt's back in the day on my VPS...they look the same but they aren't the same that's for sure. Get a c-clip tool cus if you crash the brake lever will pop out of the master cylinder and you can't reconnect it without the tool, sucky on the trail.

Wouldn't worry, ive been running them for a couple years, I dont think ive even bled them since I bought them, changed the pads once, they have never failed me. Mine are different than yours, Pretty sure yours are System 8's, mine are 12's which are a step up from my old XT's, bigger resivours, steel braided lines.. but the pads are interchangeable with XT's, Havnt had any issues, if I do.. I spent $150 on them with everything and they have been the best brakes ive ever had on anything.
Sweet looking bike! Wicked colour too!!

what ever happened to the Appalache?
Wayne P
08-23-2007, 02:20 PM
The Appalache went the way of the dodo bird early last summer. I think I only had 3 rides on it, then Yodo dropped them, so I had to sell it. I'm not even sure if Appalache is still around - haven't heard or seen of anything from him since then.
Oh well, not what I'm into DH at all. Just riding around on a mountain bike. Remember those? :P

Hmm, it sounds like it's time for the old Tri Flow on the braking surface trick.

Nice rig! You'll have a blast on it.
Those red gremicas reminded me of the Gremica System 1's I had years ago. Caught a little air riding at Cat Lake and the front seized onto the rotor as soon as the tire left the ground. Wasn't a pretty landing
Then I gave them away to a friend of my kids that was kinda bugging me.
