I experienced my first mountain bike theft incident in Vancouver about 2 months ago. I have to admit it was a traumatic experience for me cuz I loved my bike and was sad to see her go. Being a motorcyclist as well, I decided to replace my bike (with something a lot cheaper for commuting) and use one of my armored cable motorcycle locks for securing the bike at work. Well, it's finally paid off. Some jackass tried to steal my bike and desperately attempted to hammer and cut the armored lock, but failed miserably. The lock took the beating and is still good to go. I would highly suggest that anyone seriously concerned about theft consider the On-Guard armored cable locks... they're damn good.

its so bizarre living up in Prince George and not seeing people lock their bikes to 6 different things and take everything but the frame with them. i dont think anyone locks their bikes here when they run to the bank or save-on or wherever. recently i watched a guy park his bike and leave it leaning against a building. i drove by the same spot 4 hours later and the bike was still there.

One of many reasons why Vancouver isn't really the "best place to live on earth".

i leave my bike everywhere. hell, i left it at a bike rack for 4 hours unlocked. i leave my doors unlocked to my house. I leave my car unlocked. windows down. all this theft is crazy. i hear about it more on these boards than i ever would have imagined...

my bike did get stolen once... I left it outside overnight. To make a very long story short, I saw the guy riding it down the street. i chased him down on my girls bike and got the bike back.

regardless of where you live this isn't the most intelligent thing to do and an insurance claim waiting to happen... providing you do have insurance... oh, and btw what's your address?

no better feeling than coming back to your locked bike, finding the lock's been f*cked with and your bike is still there..
