The pedal insert on my Race Face crank stripped so it time to get a new crank for my Kona Stinky. I'm looking for something that not too expensive. I mainly ride Neds, 7th, Pangor and I only take out the bike a few time a year.

I have no idea how they cost compared to other cranks, but I'd receommend XT's. Light, strong, stiff, easy to install/remove, good bearings

I recommend Raceface. I used to have Evolve XC cranks until I destroyed them doing FR/DH, but since getting the North SHore DH cranks, cranks have not been a problem. And this new iteration, Diablus, should be no different. They are more expensive but they will show their worth by not being a problem.

XT's on a freeride bike. Are you serious. I never thought of that. I have XT cranks on my XC bike and I'm pretty happy with them.
Thanks Nelson but this is actually the second Race Face crank that I had to replace. It think I'll go with something else.

shimano hone hollowtech II
has steel pedal insert, pedal reinforcement washer, thicker axle (than LX or XT), seem pretty tough and cheaper than XT (same price as LX)
also found XT pretty tough but have seen the pedal thread rip out when a bigger guy landed a little hard

I might have a line on a slightly used Shimano Hone. What's a good price for a slightly used one? They were asking around 200 dollars cnd.

Hone. baby saint. I double that recommendation. $200 for used is a bit high unless barely used. I got mine new with bb for under $300. Are there two different Hone cranks? Someone told me the triple version has no pedal insert but the double with bash does. True?
Go Saint...
worth every penny..

worth every penny..
the days of cheap Saints seem to be gone......
when Saints could be had for under $200 they were definetely "worth every penny" but now it seems pretty hard to find them for a good price.
have said that, i would think the Hones would be the best bang for the buck... at half the price of the saint(approx) and at 2/3 of a pound lighter (928g vs 1,215g). Also, the people i know running Hones have been having zero issues.
i have a set of saints on my demo and really like them, i also have 2 sets of xt's on my Socom and SX trail and have had zero issues with them. the GF is running RF Diabolus and the Evolve DH's and even though there is zero issues with them, there more of a pain to install, remove and set-up when compared to the Shimano stuff.
the truvativ stuff seems ok, but 3 of the people i know using them have all had various issues with them....

dont really recomend raceface, there not bad if you dont ride often but out of all the cranks ive owned they show the most wear and tear after one season, i really like the truvativ hozzfellars im riding now but if your looking for something cheap id say go for whatever comes up all cranks are good if you dont ride a lot

The cheap Saint cranks were because of a potential problem that was fixed for 07. It's discussed in depth here:

are you using the old isis prodigy dh cranks? those had issues with pedal insert coming out and stripping.. if you gt the evolve dh ones they are problem free.. ive had mine for 2 years.
or are you using xtype bb ones...?

Deity? Stiff, and 10 minute bearing change (after > 1 year, longest I've ever gone
on the same set of bearings). I like mine, they're priced well and they handle lots
of abuse.

I've bent my Evolve XC cranks before. They were replaced with Evolve DH instead. Haven't had a chance to test them out yet. I've run Diabolous on my Ollie for a full season and I don't see them wearing out anytime soon. I doubt they every will, actually, they're totally overbuilt.
